Dom Rebel

Dom Rebel Threads (d.om reb-elle)

-noun; Latin origin stemming from Dominus Rebellis

1. master of rebellion
2. clothing line of trendsetters
3. hand finished t-shirts, unique designs

Never know what to wear to the club? Sick of showing up to your favorite hot spot only to find three other people wearing the same thing? That’s the problem with mass produced designs sold by the thousands at retailers across Toronto- everyone and anyone can get their hands on it. In an attempt to express their love for fashion, uniqueness and individual style, the creators of Dom Rebel Threads launched their own clothing line. Founded in Montreal, Canada in 1993 by Justin Svatina and Don Nguyen, the independent clothing label is inspired by an ideology of freedom and rebellion. Their unique designs are easy to spot, hard to forget and not meant for the average wallflower.

Want to get noticed? Wear one of their limited edition t-shirts with bright colors, large icons and metallic inks. The anti-authoritative attitude of the brand is highlighted by their slogan “Liberty of Thought- Freedom of Mind” and encapsulates their strong belief in uniqueness of style and individuality. The label’s fresh and innovative designs are a reflection of its owners- both of whom are in their early twenties. Their energy, creativity and connectedness with today’s youth have helped the line expand internationally.
Dom Rebel can be found nation wide, as well as in select U.S. cities, and as far across the ocean as Japan and Australia. They are carried by Holt Renfrew in Toronto, just in case you were wondering, and have done a number of fashion shows in Las Vegas and their hometown of Montreal. You can find their t-shirts on the backs of everyone from your local scenster, to A-list celebrities and just about anyone in between who appreciates detail-oriented designs.

In an effort to ensure uniqueness, Dom Rebel Threads has implemented a policy with their retail outlets which restricts them from ordering a large quantity of any one style. By doing so, they have increased the value of each clothing item sold and prevented an over saturated market place. They have even taken steps to help you identify and flag counterfeit items being sold on the internet, so the BLC editor doesn’t put you on the photo blog.

The spring collection is an important marker of Dom Rebel’s growth, as it comes from the label’s first fully functional office and showroom. Prior to this, the creative geniuses had been working out of a basement. The “Art Gallery” line is provocative, edgy and features the usage of their signature wing design with limited edition reflective ink. The “Fire in the Disco” line features the Dom Rebel skull, some vintage finishes and a variety of colors.

Creators Justin and Don released this statement: “This new collection is filled with colors. It is vibrant and full of life. Fire in The Disco is the theme we chose to express the loudness of the dance club inspired pieces. That, and a burning desire to build our brand stronger than it has ever been. We hope you enjoy our work, after all, we did it all for you...”
